Tomboys on the field

The piccys were taken by Glen just yesterday at the field  There is a ‘Full’ sized Tomboy – the small red  and cream 36” one, there are 2 larger Tomboys at 135% where the grey one has the optional longer wing and the big one is 2 times larger at 72”.  This design is popular throughout the world and was in the English Aeromodeller magazine for December 1950 as a free plan.  It was designed by Vic Smeed who designed many models mostly smallish free flight ones. It was designed for a beginner so was very simple.  I have built about 8 or more small but full sized ones, two 135% ones and recently the 72” biggie.  I think I could frame one up ready for covering in about a day they are so simple.  Maybe others in NSFC would be interested in building one?

I forgot to mention that Trevor is building a 135%er.

Here in the ACT and at BMAC Grant Manwaring has a 36” long wing as does Bob Raadts and Graeme Coronel has a 36”er.  Bob also has almost finished 135%er.  I have a 72”er, a 135%er, about 4 small ones (2 electric r/c, one free flight and one diesel r/c).  They are very popular.

  1. Nice display … Wish I could get around to building one of the 4 original size short kits that I have in the shed … 2 x RC and 2 x FF versions
