Notice to all club members:
Until you receive further advice, the flying height limit for our Tharwa flying field is 400ft above ground level (AGL).
The club is in the process of renewing our Area Approval with CASA for a flying height of 1500ft AGL for our Tharwa flying field. Our current area approval expires on 11 December 2024.
As things stand it is unlikely that we will receive a new Area Approval for a flying height increase to 1500ft AGL until at least February 2025. Our application for this approval was submitted to the MAAA in early November 2024.
For most of us the height limit of 400ft AGL will not require any change to the way we fly or the operation of our models, but will affect gliders as they frequently fly above the generic 400 ft limit.
If you are worried about the height you fly at you can install a variometer that measures height and reports back via the telemetry system on your radio. Alternatively you can install a CAM device which will cut power to an electric motor at preset heights. You can find more about them at Hyperflight UK or Electric Flight in Aus .
