We have had an unwelcome visitor to the Tharwa Field. I discovered a break-in at the field yesterday afternoon when I called in to check the strip.
The front gate was wide open, with the chain and lock intact. The padlock shroud and padlock on the BBQ shed had been cut with an oxy-acetylene torch. It appears the intruder jammed the doors when he attempted to open them both at the same time.
A quick inspection of the inside of the shed showed no apparent theft or damage. The mower shed was untouched. It appears the front gate had been opened by levering the chain over the top of the strainer post.
I secured the BBQ shed with a lock on the right-hand door and relocked the gate with the chain halfway down the strainer post. Greg will add more locks and remove the mower for safe-keeping today.
This is not great news, but at least they didn’t manage to get inside for whatever reason.
The club should be able to claim against the MAAA insurance policy, if they so choose, up to a value of $5k if I remember correctly.
That’t very disappointing but I guess attempted burglaries will be on the rise as a result of heightened unemployment etc. I guess we just have to make sure we lock gates and containers as best we can. Also, thanks Don for what you have done to re-secure the container.
