Testing a new camera

Sam and I went halves in a new action camera. Sam’s using it for mountain biking, and I’ll be using it for recording flights (Muson MC2, from Amazon). It came with loads of accessories, but none for clipping on to a cap. I took a quick trip into the Thingiverse and found just what I needed. A quick print later, I had exactly the right attachment for clipping the camera to the peak of my cap.

Tried it out at a local oval today. It’s very easy to use. Here’s some samples from today’s flying. Picture quality is OK, and considering how much the camera was, it does a good job.

Volador – lightweight 3D foam profile plane
Caracara – a 3D printed small pitcheron glider
Wing Wing Z-84 – a fast and agile small foam wing
The Plank (aka Speedy Red Midi Wing) – printed with LW PLA
This is the camera with printed attachment to clip to a cap.

  1. Just watched the vids, they’re very clear and the sound is good. How much does the camera weigh? I saw on Amazon it seems to have the same basic shape as the go pro.

  2. The camera on its own weighs 59g, and with the mount setup shown in the photo it weighs 102g (I just updated the post with a photo of the camera).
I don’t have a GoPro, but I think it might be the same size.

  3. Hi Jeremy, There’s no doubt about you mate, you’re always pushing the boundaries and doing interesting things. Thanks for giving us a window into your experimentation.
