Spot Landing Comp + BBQ Report, Feb 2025

It was a great late summer BBQ at Tharwa with gourmet sausage cooking by Glen, Allan and Fred – sausages, onion and saute potatoes all served on fresh bread with your choice of sauce – delicious!

Complementing the food there was a large turnout of club members and 2 visitors from CMAC, Frank and Gary, flying beautifully turned out blue and yellow sports models (sorry I didn’t get the actual model name).

Running through the morning was a keenly fought spot landing comp. Thirteen different competitors and models making multiple attempts at super accurate landings.

The “Honour and Glory” award goes to Peter who was the only entrant to actually land on the SPOT (with his 2nd attempt), well done Peter. Peter also gets the “Persistence and Determination” award for making 9 spot landing attempts, more than anyone else. Lastly, Peter also managed to score the crash of the day award. It was a busy day for his Multiplex Acromaster!

Honourable mentions also go to James, Neil, RayT+DaveP, DaveB and Glen who all managed landings only 2M off the target.

Finally, I want to give a special shout out to RayT. Ray and DaveP maidened his new Tomboy Snr X (non-standard wingspan). On their maiden flight they managed to be only 2M away from the target even though the model was very twitchy. After some adjustment Ray on his first solo flight with the model managed a landing only 4M off the target. Well done Ray, especially as the wind was a bit gusty during your flight.

Thanks to everyone who came out to Tharwa for the flying, BBQ and comp. It made for a great morning of flying and eating.

Lat word – does anyone have any photos of the day that we can add to the report? If so send them to me at secretary@namadgisfc.org.au
