The Military Day Fun Fly is BACK ON

After the disappointment of the poor weather last October we have rescheduled our Military Day Fun Fly for mid-February 2026 but all the good stuff is the same …
The purpose of the day is to have fun, have a fly and maybe a little light hearted competition …
Where?
Namadgi Sports Flyers Club Tharwa Flying Field on Naas Rd, Tharwa. Need directions?
What’s planned:
- The day runs from 9AM until 1PM and will start with a pilot’s briefing at 9AM followed by registration
- There will be a sausage sandwich breakfast to kick off the day
- The whole day is free to club members, members of Canberra region RC clubs (current MAAA members) and visitors looking for information about RC flying or who are interested in joining a club and learning to fly
- What sort of aircraft can be entered? Anything with a mild military link (eg. RAAF roundels on a simple trainer) through to scale and semi-scale military aircraft models, but they must be flyable
- There will be some mild competitions including a bomb drop, an aircraft combat event (any electric powered foam flying model can enter) and a static judging by all entrants for the best model
- Event winners to be announced at about 12:30pm (there are no prizes, just honour and glory)

Note that SWASTIKAS are NOT permitted on any model, participant, clothing, vehicle, flag, banner, visitor or support equipment.
Tharwa flying field has limited facilities,
- there will be a toilet onsite; other public toilets are in Tharwa village and also at the Namadgi Visitor Centre
- there will be food and some drinking water
- if you have one bring a shade gazebo as there is space to erect them at the northern end of the pits area
- bring sun screen
- coffee is available from Clarries Cafe in Tharwa village which is open from 9:00AM to 5:30PM daily.
