After 10 issues Australia’s only(?) print magazine focused on RC topics has ceased publication. I think this is a sad day for our hobby because there is no longer an Australian voice to reach out to the public to explain and promote our hobby/sport in all its planes/drones/fpv/heli forms.
FLAT OUT RC was a magazine primarily about events and kit reviews supplemented with Brian Winch’s regular contributions on technical topics. One of its regular features was support for clubs either by reporting on events held or by giving them a platform to promote themselves.
I was not a regular reader of the magazine but when I was travelling it was a way to see what was going on, what other clubs were doing and what interesting kits were around.
I think that all the organisations around the world that produce electronic newsletters are going to be doing an important job of promoting hobby and maintaining the interest of modellers and model flyers regardless of the particular niche of our hobby that they covered.
Maybe as a club we have a responsibility to provide more information on what our members do and to pass on the huge amount of knowledge and skills that are in our club. Maybe we should have more “How To …” articles and/or kit bold reports on our website?
What do you think?
I think that you have a point Neil when it comes to sharing the knowledge, not only within our club, but in a format that will stand the test of time.
To get an idea of the sorts of knowledge and experience that many of our members have, you only have to see who people ask for help with certain situations …
I know myself that I have asked Geoff Pearson, Heath Mackey, Paul McDonnell, Don Rann, Mark, Lionel and Jeremy over the years for bits and pieces of information to help with one project or another … and that is just within our club.
I think the ‘How to…’/’Build’ reports are a great idea Neil.
Happy to contribute something if there’s an interest.
