Veron Deacon this was a kit in the UK that was started in 1957 and was designed by Bill Dean. It was originally a free flight model for a Mills 1.3cc diesel. I framed up the 3 models for each of us. The models are powered by 1940’s 2 cc side port diesel engines. Bob’s has a US engine that was made as a repro by CS (China) and is called a MIcro. Frank has another repro US engine called a Deezil and was sold as complete or a kit engine in the early 1940’s by Gotham Hobbies in New York. The original was quite a poor engine with lousy parts fit but this one is made on China by CS and is very good. My Deacon is powered by an Italian engine that is still made by the original engine manufacturer in small numbers to exclusive modelers. It is made in La Spezia (near Cinque Terre), Italy. On Thursday 23 July, 2020 Allan Laycock, Bob Raadts, Fred Burman and myself went out to a very cold NSFC in order to fly the Deacon models dating back to the early 1940’s. In spite of the weather the morning was a wonderful success. See some photos below. The collage of photos below show Allan and Bob (with their Deacons), Allan, Fred (with his Tomboy Senior) , Allan, Bob. Click on each photo to see a larger picture.
