At some time I guess we’ve all experienced the difference between what the weather is like at our home and what it is like when we get out to our flying field at Tharwa and this is particularly frustrating when the weather looks great at home but it is too windy for an enjoyable fly at Tharwa.
That frustration should be over soon thanks to Don Rann who has developed and installed a custom weather station at our Tharwa field with updates every minute. Don’s weather station provides temperature, wind direction and wind speed.
Test data is available now but keep in mind that the weather station is “a work in progress” as Don refines the sensitivity and accuracy of the measurements.
You can check the Tharwa weather from the comfort of your home by using the link on the club website. In the footer for every page on the club website are a set of links which look like these below which let you check flying conditions …
… click on the “Tharwa Weather” link and you will open the weather page for Don’s weather station.
One gotcha is that the default is to display the temperature in fahrenheit, you can change this to celsius in the settings for the weather page.
Looks good. The information is great.
The work that has been done on providing weather for members is indeed very useful and at some stage I would like to find out how exactly this has been done?
Regards, Trevor
PS Congratulations to the technical gurus involved.
