Call out for Members to do Online Training in the Use of the Tharwa Field Defibrillator

As you all probably know by now we have a St John’s Ambulance defibrillator on the wall in the container at the Tharwa field. As part of the package we received 10 online training packages so that 10 people in our club can familiarize themselves in how to operate the device and perform a rescue. For your efforts you will receive a Certificate of Completion, it only takes about 20 minutes to complete. So, any member who is a regular flyer at Tharwa and who would like to do the course is invited to e-mail me, Gary Trevean at secretary@namadgisfc.org.au and if we still have a vacancy I will give you the directions on how to access the training module.

Please be aware that our defibrillator is fully automatic and is designed to be used by untrained people. The moment you open the lid the defib will talk you through the whole process and detect if you are doing CPR properly and whether the patients heart has stopped. It will automatically give the required shock to restart the patients heart. So please do not hesitate to use the defib if somebody is in cardiac distress at the field whether you are trained or not, every second is vital.

Also note that the device can and should be used on a patient whether or not they have an internal heart regulator device such as pacemaker. The device will only fire when it detects the heart needs it. St Johns has advised me this is the case.

We also plan to give a talk on the defib on a BBQ Sunday out at the field if we ever get together again.

We are also planing to purchase a defib for the Williamsdale Helicopter Field through a MAAA scheme. This is a different brand to the Tharwa defib and separate training will be provided on this device when we get it.

So if you are interested please send me an e-mail.
