Bomb Drop Comp Results

The turnout for the club’s Australia Day BBQ was great and the sausages were cooked to perfection by Bill and Alex. Thanks very much guys.

Thanks are also due to the mowing team for doing such a great job, the field was mowed to perfection and made a great setting for an enjoyable morning’s flying.

There were only 2 entrants in the bomb drop comp, Glen and myself. Before we started we decided to move the target a bit further away from the pilots box as when practicing earlier in the week it felt like we had to fly right overhead to drop the bomb anywhere near the target.

In 3 attempts I managed to drop my bomb about 8m from the target and Glen was a bit further away. In our final bomb drop attempt I managed about 7m from the target but Glen managed to get his entire bomb drop mechanism (not the bomb) only 5m from the target and then followed it up by pancaking his UglyStik only 8m from the target.

Today’s “bomb drop award” must go to Glen for his sheer “never-say-die” determination to hit the target.

But the real star of the comp was Allan, who managed to get an action shot of Glen’s plane immediately after releasing his bomb and also the bomb. Look carefully at picture above where the arrow is pointing and see if you can see a small light coloured bomb in full flight!

The next comp is a Spot Landing comp which will run at the February BBQ. Any pilot with any plane can enter and try to land closest to the target. Check out the BBQ and comp calendar for what’s planned or read up on the club’s Viagra Cup competition which is open to all club members with any kind of aircraft.
