Ken’s “Eddie” is reborn. His original was held together mostly by the plastic film covering he had used all over as many of the glue joints had long since retired from active duty.
My rebuild is almost identical to Ken’s apart from colouring, covering, tailplane, the size of Snoopy and the ailerons! 🙂 The dihedral in the upper wing on mine is unintentional! The motor, speedy, receiver, undercarriage, wing braces and a couple of servos are from Ken’s original.
A short test run in the backyard shows it wants to fly (nearly went over the back fence on my trial run – too much throttle!). Now what’s next? There’s time for a think before getting stuck in …
So in the future when you’re asked what you did during the coronavirus lockdown what will you say?
Great work Neil – So happy to hear you have rejuvenated one of Ken’s planes.
Thanks Don. I’m not sure if rejuvenated is quite the right term though, perhaps more in spirit than reality (new fuse, same electronics and hardware)
Looks good Neil. I will be ready to combat with you when we can get out there.
Fred I think your years of practice will have me buying lots of streamers. I don’t count my heinz’ (Eddie wings and Otto tail) attempt to escape over the fence as a maiden flight so not sure what its flying qualities will be
Very nice Neil. That’s a great story about the nearly first maiden.
As for this stay at home thing…..allows a bit more time to focus on printing planes. I have two in the pipeline at the moment:
X-100 Infinity Wing:

Hyperhawk:

If you’ve got a spare few minutes, watch the video for the Infinity Wing. It’s quite entertaining.
The Hyperhawk is nearly finished, while the Infinity Wing is in the printing phase.
Other than that, Sam and Ben need school work to keep them busy, so this takes a lot of our time.
Plus, I’m teaching myself to play the drums. Recently got a second hand Yamaha electronic drum kit, and it’s awesome to play. I never knew drumming was so complex.
Am also teaching Ben piano, and he’s doing really well with all this extra time to practice. I can’t have students over at the moment, so it’s nice to be able to teach my son.
Should say…if you don’t want to watch the whole video of the Infinity Wing, skip to 6’45”….it’s very funny.
Hi Jeremy I see what you mean. The Infinity Wing design looks pretty cool when it works. Have you tried that Solidworks Cad software? I think I’m going to sign up for a trial and see how I go. While this Coronavirus isolation thing is on I’ve plenty of time to experiment!
I haven’t used Solidworks. Let me know how it goes.
I started teaching myself Fusion 360, but haven’t used it for a while.
